 Principal Accountabilities

In addition to following McDonald’s policies and procedures, principal accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

Strategy
  • Provide overall leadership to ensure McDonald’s food safety standard and policies are comply with the Chinese laws & regulations and system (global and regional) expectations for restaurant operations.
  • Understand new development on science and technology related to food safety practices in the areas of restaurant operation and training.  
  • Provide leadership in the area of risk management and mitigation to ensure framework on restaurant food safety is adequately addressing potential risks.
  • Establish appropriate approach to maintain and advance food safety culture at restaurant operations, drive for continuous improvement.
  • Communicate effectively to the various departments within the company to ensure collaboration and partnership in advancing food safety practices

Restaurant food safety:        
  • Stay current with science, technology related to food safety, and relevant regulations in China.
  • Collaborate with colleagues within the Food Safety Department and with Restaurant Operations, Restaurant Development, Quality Systems, Legal, Corporate Affairs, and others to establish company’s food safety standards and procedures based on the most current Chinese laws & regulations and system expectations.
  • Be able to collaborate with and leverage expertise from the supplier community.
  • Collaborate with Restaurant Operations to develop and maintain restaurant food safety visit/auditing framework for China market based on Chinese laws and regulations and global system expectations.
  • Lead the effort on restaurant product testing by using 3rd party testing laboratories and ensure sampling plan is based on sound science and regulatory requirements. Able to identify opportunities for continuous improvement based on data.
  • Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to measure restaurant food safety performance. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement.   
  • Proactively working with Restaurant Development group to ensure food safety is top of mind as they design new restaurants.
  • Be able to contribute to the development of APMEA and Global food safety standards and policies.
  • Collaborate closely with restaurant operations to ensure Food Safety standards and procedures are implemented correctly and effectively.
  • Understand customer’s feedback on food safety at restaurant and identify opportunity for improvement.

External Networking and Alliances
  • Participate in collaboration with restaurant industry associations, government and academia to advance science-based China National food safety standards
  • Have good network and positive relationship with suppliers  
  • Willing to take on leading role with external organizations/associations to lead change in advance science-based food safety standards  

Change Management
  • Design and influence key internal stakeholders on food safety strategies and ensure our restaurant operation compliance to national food safety laws and regulations
  • Partner with colleagues at Restaurant Operations, Quality Systems, and Legal department to ensure successful implementation of the company’s food safety standards and policies 

People and Development
  • Develop talents in the areas of restaurant food safety within the organization.
  • Establish positive relationship with Operations and business partners, such as Development Licensees (DL), etc.
  • Role models the utilization of effective people systems (selecion, Performance Development System, Rewards and Recognition, etc.)
  • Demonstrate and reinforce the leadership behaviors and basic people skills necessary to gain commitment from the staff and colleagues
  • Complete and present performance appraisals based on defined goals and objectives of the department. 

REQUIREMENTS
  • Proficient in both Chinese and English.
  • Self-motivated and results oriented.
  • 8+ years of food safety or restaurant operations experience required.
  • Experience in the restaurant business, food industry, or hospitality industry.   
  • Bachelor degree is required and Master degree in relevant major is preferred.
  • Strong project management, communication, and influencing skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to draft, revise, and finalize restaurant food safety standards and procedures (in Chinese) and open for input from internal stakeholders.
  • Believe in collaboration and team work within the organization.
  • Have participated in Food Safety collaboration with professional associations.  
  • based in Shanghai, China
